Sophomore guard Barry Dunning entered the transfer portal Monday morning, VerbalCommits has confirmed.
Dunning, Alabama’s former Mr. Basketball, appeared in 15 games for the Blazers this season, averaging 4.5 minutes per outing. The McGill-Toolen alumnus started his college career at Arkansas in 2022 before transferring to UAB last summer.
In UAB’s early-season loss to Clemson, Dunning recorded three points, one steal, and one rebound in 19 minutes. The guard served as a situational option through the rest of non-conference play, scoring six points against Alabama A&M and four points against Alcorn State.
Once the new year turned, Dunning struggled to crack the rotation. He played just twice in February and March combined.
The highlight of Dunning’s Blazer career was an alley-oop dunk to close out the first half in a January home game against Tulane. Called into duty by foul trouble, the guard also recorded three minutes in UAB’s March Madness loss to San Diego State. He racked up an assist and two rebounds.
Dunning’s departure leaves the Blazers with two open scholarships.
